This evening I began phase 2 of my patchwork venture. 2 hours later, and still not fully prepped for sewing, I am more certain that this has to be a labour of love- it certainly couldn't be called fast-track accessorizing.
However, I will persue this knowing that, and may I encourage you also, craft gets speedier the more you produce it. Corner-cutting, production lines and standard-components which the necessity to 'not take anywhere near as long next time!' forces. So now that you're really encouraged...
1) Choose a complimentary fabric to your pattern shape. Random prints may suit the repeat geometrical pattern and be easier to line-up. Smaller prints will carry better as you can see complete flowers/spots/animals. I've used a vintage ditsy triangle print + white pieces as an accent from the main fabric.
2) Lay and pin your pattern pieces out and pin. Allow seam allowance (1cm around edge for folding around templates). Double-over your fabric beforehand to cut twice as much out at a time. Cut out.
3) Re-pin your templates to the reverse of fabric and fold all edges inward securing with masking-tape pre-sewing.
4) Watch Mary Portas on channel 47 with a shandy.
